Shabad 1: Simar Mana Ram Naam Chithaarae

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKBstdFG0uE

This Shabad is composed by Dhan Guru Arjan Dev ji Maharaj (fifth of the ten Sikh Gurus), where Guruji tells his mind to meditate on God's name and that God's feet are imbibed in his heart. He goes on to say that those people who have a Guru who can tell them that they are on the wrong path are very fortunate. Guruji says that even though the mind is engrossed in various bad deeds God will liberate us and give us his support and will save us by holding us by the arm.

Simar manaa
Simar manaa raam naam chithaarae
simar manaa

Simar manaa raam naam chithaarae
bas rehae hiradhai gur charan piaarae

bhoolae maarag jinehi bathaaeiaa
aisaa gur vaddabhaagee paaeiaa

kaam krodhh lobh mohi man leenaa
bandhhan kaatt mukath gur keenaa

dhukh sukh karath janam fun mooaa
charan kamal gur aasram dheeaa

agan saagar booddath sansaaraa
naanak baah pakar sathigur nisathaaraa

Meditate, contemplate the Name of the Lord, O mind.

Meditate, contemplate the Name of the Lord, O mind. The Beloved Feet of the Guru abide within my heart

He places the one who strays, back on the Path; Such a Guru is found only by the highly fortunate

The mind is engrossed in sexual desire, anger, greed and emotional attachment.
Breaking the bonds, the Guru has liberated me

Experiencing pain and pleasure, one is born, only to die again.
The Lotus Feet of the Guru bring peace and shelter

The world is drowning in the ocean of fire.
O Nanak, holding me by the arm, the True Guru has saved
